What we collect when you read the glossary, why, and how to opt out.

In short

Who is responsible

Heart Lexicon ("we") is responsible for the data described here. For any privacy question or request, write to contact@heartlexicon.com.

Visit statistics

To learn which entries are useful and which words are missing, we use Matomo, an analytics tool that runs on our own server in Germany (EU). The data is not sold and is not shared with advertisers or other companies.

Statistics run for every visitor but without cookies: nothing is stored on your device to recognise you. Visits are grouped by a code calculated on our server from your IP address and browser details, which changes every day, so we cannot follow you from one day to the next.

If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, Matomo is not loaded at all.

For each visit Matomo records:

We never ask who you are, so these records are not linked to your name or email address. Location is looked up on our own server from a downloaded database; your IP address is not sent to anyone else.

Opt out

The opt-out switch needs JavaScript. Without JavaScript, Matomo is not loaded and your visit is not counted.

The opt-out is remembered in this browser only (ig.optout). If you clear site data or use another browser or device, choose it again.

Server logs

Separately from the statistics, and even if you opt out, our web server writes a short technical log line for each request: the page address without search words, the response code, how long it took and your browser's user agent string. Visitors' IP addresses are not written to this log; only for requests from search engine crawlers is the IP kept, so we can tell real crawlers from fakes. We use the log to keep the site running and to spot errors and abuse. It stays on our server and is deleted automatically after 30 days.

Stored in your browser

Your colour theme, the 18+ notice and a statistics opt-out, if you choose one, are remembered only in your own browser and are never sent to us. The cookie page lists everything stored.

Why we may use this data

Who else handles it

The site and the statistics run on servers we rent from a hosting provider in Germany (EU). The provider stores the data for us and may not use it for anything else. Data is not transferred outside the EU.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of data about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its use (for statistics, the opt-out does this straight away). Because we never know who you are, we can only find records of your visits if you tell us roughly when you visited and from which IP address. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes

If what we collect changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
